Power Insights: your questions answered
Does Power Insights write anything to my tenant?
No. It reads your tenant through Microsoft’s own admin APIs and never writes to it. There is no code path that modifies an app, a flow, a solution or a row of your business data.
Do I have to install anything?
No. There is no solution to import, no app registration for you to create and no infrastructure to stand up. You sign in with Microsoft and run an assessment.
What account do I need to sign in with?
A Power Platform Administrator, Dynamics 365 Administrator or Global Administrator account returns tenant-wide results. Any other account sees only the environments it personally belongs to. Reading solutions, tables and connection references additionally needs a security role inside each environment’s Dataverse database.
How long does an assessment take?
Minutes for a real tenant. The scan walks every environment across four Microsoft services and stores the result, so every page afterwards loads from storage rather than calling Microsoft again.
How does this relate to Microsoft’s CoE Starter Kit?
They complement each other. The CoE Starter Kit is installed into your tenant and adds governance processes such as DLP impact analysis, compliance requests and maker onboarding. Power Insights runs outside the tenant, is read-only, and focuses on inventory, governance visibility and migration planning — available the day you sign in, with nothing to maintain. Many teams run both.
What data do you store?
Object metadata — the inventory itself: environments, apps, flows, connections, connectors, solutions and Dataverse schema. Never the contents of your Dataverse tables, and never your business data.
Can colleagues see the assessment without being able to re-run it?
Yes. Colleagues from your Microsoft tenant join your organisation as members: they can read and export the assessment but cannot spend the organisation’s API quota by running a sync.
Can it help plan a migration between tenants or environments?
Yes. A migration project takes the apps you intend to move and grows the list to what actually has to travel with them — the flows they call, the objects sharing their solutions — then produces the solution plan, the risks and the exports.
What does it cost?
The Free plan assesses a single environment with up to 3 users. Pro is US$690/month for one tenant with unlimited environments and 100 users, including Excel and PDF exports.
